Suggestions and Information for A Meadowlark Guests

1. Key to the guest house is hanging on the hat rack in the front hall. You might want to lock the
frontdoor when you are out, just to be sure your things are secure, and at night. It is not necessary to close or lock the door to your deck.

2. Outside lightsforthe steps turn on by the garage door and also inside the front hall. Please turn off the outside lights when you retire.

3. There are washer, dryer and soap, in garage for your use. You are responsible for washing your towels and bed linen while you are here although I would be happy to help if you need my assistance. Please leave used towels and bed linen on the washer in the garage when you leave. Thank you.

4. There is a picnic cooler, portable barbecues, back packs, etc. in the garage on the shelves to the left as you enter. There are plastic plates, bowls, cups, etc. over the stove in the guest house
Place mats and napkins are in the hutch. If you need something else please ask me.

5. Please use the "extra" towels in the bathroom cupboard or any outside activities, rather than taking out the matched ones. There are two large towels in the bedroom dresser for swimming. Also, small rags, etc. in cupboard for emergency wipe-ups and cleaning mud from your shoes.

6. There are games such as scrabble, pictionary, canoga, etc., in the living room hutch, cards in the hall tree, and basketballs (with pumps) and outside games in the garage.

7. There are books in the center section of the large hutch. I have over 400 videos which you are welcome to enjoy. Please call me if you would like to choose different ones than those I have placed in the guest house. The TV in the living room is on DirectTV cable. Turn on TV remote and then Cable remote. Set to channel 3 and use upper right button for video or TV. WiFi is now available in the guest house.

8. You are at 444 Pt. Lawrence Road, Olga, WA 98279, in Barbara Wheeler's guest house - A Meadowlark- which is 4/10 mile past the Olga Cafe, across the street from the Sand Dollar B & B. IN AN EMERGENCY DIAL 911. My telephone number is 360 376 3224. Yours is 360 376 3225. You will be responsible for a ll calls made off Orcas Island. Cell phones do not work out here.

9. "Fire starters" are by the stove. Please do not use newpapers. Small starters work very well. Place two or three under several pieces of kindling with one or two logs on top of the kindling. When starting fire, pull small brass handle on bottom toward you part way to allow air into stove. Close it part way or all the way when fire is burning well. THERE IS A FIRE EXTINGUISHER NEXT TO THE COAT RACK IN THE FRONT HALL. The wood pile is by the side of the garage under your deck.

10. Trash containers are by garage under your deck. Please put rinsed glass jars and bottles, newspapers , clean paper , magazines, cardboard, plastic, rinsed and flattened milk cartons all in one trash container for recycling. Trash goes in the other container. Please put garbage in plastic bags before placing in trash container. Raccoons are very clever and messy. Please empty your trash from the guest house before you leave. Thank you.

11. Please wash your dishes and turn off the coffee maker before you leave. Thank you.

12. There are oil lamps under the sink in the bathroom in case of a (rare) power outage.

13. When using the bed in the living room couch, please tuck the sheets in all the way around when folding up the bed, otherwise, they catch on the hinges and rip. Blankets for the couch bed are on the shelf in the bedroom. Unfortunately, they can't be left on the bed as the mechanism can't handle the extra bulk. There are sleeping bags in the garage if needed.

14. If it is bright and sunny when you go out, please put the blind down by the dining table. Also, if it is very windy, put the umbrella on the deck down before you go out. We get some pretty good gusts sometimes.

15. Swimming is at Cascade Lake (you drove by it ) in Moran State Park in the summer. In the winter
there are indoor pools at Rosario Resort and at the Sports Club in Eastsound. .

The Orcas Island Art Works is in the samehistoric building (original Strawberry Packing Plant) and sells fine quality items made by some of the best artists, jewelry makers, weavers and painters on Orcas. 10:00am-6:00pm..

17. You are welcome to walk on part of our little beach at Buck Bay , from roughly to the right of the barn (facing the bay as you walk down my path ) to where the main road meets E.J. Young Road ; but not to the left in frontof the trailer or houses, or to the right parallel to the main road. These sections are owned by proprietary neighbors . Sorry. The tidelands are privately owned also and are a clam and oyster farm. (Besides, its muddy) so please do not walk out on the mud flats at low tide. the clams and oysters are for sale and are fantastic if you want to walk down and buy some.

19. Great boat and kayak launch at the end of the Obstruction Pass Road - to the right as you exit our
driveway. Lieber Haven Resort at Obstruction Pass rents fishing boats and fishing gear. Also wonderful kayaking with Sandy and Carl Burger, owners of Spring Bay Inn nearby. 376 5531.

20. You can rent boats to paddle around Mountain Lake by contacting the office at Moran State Park.

21. During yellow jacket season (sometime in August usually) keep the screen door on the deck shut and they shouldn't be much bother. If you eat out on the deck and they are around, they seem to
go for the meats. I will be sure to have baited traps on the deck.

22. WE ARE ON SEPTIC TANKS ON ORCAS ISLAND. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO NOT
PUT ANYTHING DOWN THE TOILET EXCEPT TOILET PAPER. PAPER TOWELS, HAIR , ETC.
(even Co ndoms) CREATE SERIOUS PROBLEMS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION.

23. We have a fantastic animal shelter (be sure to visit it if you love animals and want to see a really happy place. Open 7 days a week 2 -5 pm). The Shelter is on Hope Lane just off Mt. Baker Road up past the airport. The telephone is376 6777. My two cats are outside during the day but stay inside the garage under the guest house at night. If you are allergic, you might want to stay out of the garage. They are never in the guest house and no one has ever been affected by them there. Sometimes they don't go in at night until I come tuck them in, so you might hear me out late calling "here, kitty, kitty". .
